AUCTION : 0510

Lot#: 24

DESCRIPTION: English / Scottish, Painted dial and movement for a tall case clock,8-day, time and strike, as found, less weights and pendulum, neat "Father Time" dial, and interestingly, the movement has Graham's design dead beat escapement and Harrison's ratchet maintaining power. C.1850.
CONDITION: this is an interesting piece with good potential. The last workman converted this to a ding-dong tube strike, adding a bracket for 2 tubes and making a double ended sleeve to strike both tubes when the hammer fell. This can be easily converted back to a regular bell strike. The dial is signed Jos. Josephs, Redrum, but the best part is the well executed hand painting of Father Time in the arch. Hands are later, surface rust on steel parts; wheels still turn fine. Dial measures 12 x 17"
